How to build an SD card

Easiest for now is to use the Ubuntu image as starting point and replace the kernel with a mainline version. Just dd the image on a SD-card of at least 8 GB.

How to compile the kernel
make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabihf- zImage mt7623n-bananapi-bpi-r2.dtb
cat arch/arm/boot/zImage arch/arm/boot/dts/mt7623n-bananapi-bpi-r2.dtb > /tmp/zImage
cp /tmp/zImage arch/arm/boot/zImage

make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabihf- LOADADDR=0x80008000 uImage
cp arch/arm/boot/uImage /BPI-BOOT-mount-point/bananapi/bpi-r2/linux/uImage
Supported IP blocks
  • Known to be worked on: DRM, HDMI (mediatek)
  • To be done: nothing known

Uses preloader and BSP u-boot. Upstream u-boot patches got submitted.

Build and use:

  • apply patches
  • make mt7623n_bpir2_defconfig && make
  • build a image including the preloader (TBD)
  • When booting:
    • mmc dev 1 0
    • fatload mmc 1:1 0x84000000 bananapi/bpi-r2/linux/uImage
    • bootm
